I can still hear the roar from Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara. On 25 May 2025, MPL Malaysia Season 15 Regular Season closed, and I was glued to the stream like it was a world final. Now, writing in 2026, I look back at that final week and realize it was not just another regular season. It was a record-breaking, heart-breaking, bracket-shaking chapter in Malaysia's longest-running esports event. And yes, I was there for every chaotic minute—virtually, at least. 🎮

The Kings March Onward to Riyadh

Selangor Red Giants OG Esports (SRG) did not just top the standings. They stamped their name into league history. With 26 points, SRG finished first for the third successive season—the first time any team had done that in MPL Malaysia history. They swept Ocean Black (OB) and Team Rey (TR) 2-0 in Week 6, completing an unbeaten 9-0 match win-loss run. It was a perfect echo of their Season 13 dominance. I remember watching the final series and asking myself: how do you even prepare against a team that refuses to lose?

SRG entered the Playoffs with one of the coveted Upper Bracket Semi Finals slots. They were one step away from defending their world crown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Playoffs marked the final stage of Season 15, where the top two teams would represent Malaysia at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup (MSC) at the 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC), with its USD 3,000,000 (~MYR 12,693,000) prize pool. SRG were the reigning champions after upsetting world champions Falcons AP.Bren (FCAP) 4-3 in the Grand Finals the year before. As a fan, I felt the weight of that target on their backs.

Homebois Rewrote Their Own Story

If SRG were the kings, Homebois (HB) were the comeback princes. They defeated Monster Vicious (MV) 2-1 in their final Regular Season match to secure second place and the other Upper Bracket Semi Finals slot. The Season 12 champions amassed 22 points and an 8-1 match win-loss ratio. That was a complete reversal of their previous season: 11 points and a painful 2-7 record. The transfers of three new players—Exp Laner Kenley Veldora Zefanya, Gold Laner Adam Melqt Hamidun, and Roamer Vincentsius Ivannn Adrianto—transformed HB into genuine title contenders. How often does a roster overhaul turn a struggling squad into a serious threat? Not often. But HB made it look inevitable.

The Playoff Field

The rest of the bracket had its own stories. MV finished third on 17 points, AERO Esports (AERO) fourth on 16, Team Vamos (VMS) fifth on 14, and DX Soul (DXS) sixth on 13. They all qualified, but the margins were razor-thin.

Rank Team Points
1 SRG 26
2 HB 22
3 MV 17
4 AERO 16
5 VMS 14
6 DXS 13

Todak's Painful Fall

Todak (TDK), one of Malaysia's oldest and most decorated teams, failed to qualify for the Playoffs for the first time since their debut in Season 4. TDK had lifted the MPL Malaysia trophy in Season 6, 9, and 11. They even secured a third-place finish at the inaugural M1 World Championship, MOONTON Games' flagship international Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament. But inconsistency cost them dearly. They earned a meagre 10 points and finished seventh, one place away from qualification. With their hopes snuffed out, TDK lost 0-2 in their penultimate match to JP Niners on Day 3, 25 May, closing a disappointing season. I felt that loss in my chest. How quickly can a giant stumble? Faster than anyone wants to admit.

The Playoffs Bracket and Schedule

The MPL Malaysia Season 15 Playoffs took place across two weekends—Phase 1 from 31 May to 1 June, and Phase 2 from 14 to 15 June. All Playoffs matches followed a Best-of-Five (BO5) format except for the Grand Finals, which was a Best-of-Seven (BO7). The Playoffs began with the Upper Bracket Quarter Finals in a single-elimination format, meaning the losing team was knocked out immediately. From the Upper Bracket Semi Finals onward, matches followed a double-elimination format. Teams were not eliminated until they lost two matches, falling to the Loser's Bracket after their first loss.

AERO and VMS kicked things off on 31 May at 12:00 PM GMT+8, followed by MV against DXS at 4:00 PM GMT+8. The victors earned matchups the next day against SRG at 11:00 AM GMT+8 and HB at 3:00 PM GMT+8 in the Upper Bracket Semi Finals. The winners of those semi finals clashed later that day at 8:00 PM GMT+8. The winner advanced to the Grand Finals on 15 June, while the losers fought through the Lower Brackets on 14 June.

Viewership Went Nuclear

Nothing about Season 15's viewership was regular. The Regular Season reached a new all-time high for peak viewership, making it seven consecutive seasons that MPL Malaysia had achieved an increase. According to Esports Charts, Season 9 had 85,076 Peak Concurrent Viewers (PCV); Season 10 had 106,724 PCV; Season 11 had 165,420 PCV; Season 12 had 166,448 PCV; Season 13 had 236,457 PCV; Season 14 had 262,061 PCV; and Season 15 hit 497,877 PCV during the Week 4, Day 1 match between SRG and AERO on 9 May. This season's top three Regular Season matches by PCV all surpassed last season's record, reflecting the league's continued growth season-on-season. What does 497,877 concurrent viewers tell you? It tells you that Malaysian mobile esports is no longer a niche. It is a tidal wave.

Why Season 15 Still Matters in 2026

As a player and a fan, I took lessons from Season 15 that still shape how I watch the game in 2026. Consistency wins regular seasons. Roster moves can revive a team overnight. Mental resilience separates champions from almost-champions. And institutions matter: MPL Malaysia was supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Rakan Muda, Esports Integrated (ESI), the Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF), and Persatuan Stadium Malaysia (PSM). That support helped turn a local league into a global feeder for the MSC and EWC.

Would I trade that season for anything? Never. SRG's perfect run, Homebois' resurrection, Todak's fall, the bracket chaos, the record-breaking viewership—it all felt like the moment Malaysian MLBB grew up. And when I look at the 2026 scene, I still measure every new season against the standard Season 15 set. The Kings marched to Riyadh. The challengers sharpened their blades. The fans packed the stream. And I, like thousands of others, simply could not look away. 🏆
